In A Nutshell: The Travancore Heritage fits the bill for most British travellers to Kovalam. Firstly, it has a lovely colonial feel, especially the restaurant area with rounded arches and open sides. The cottages are very rustic and spread around the large coconut palm gardens, allowing for lots of privacy and a relaxed setting. Most of all you are away from the hustle and bustle of Kovalam, but close enough to reach it by taxi for an odd night out.

Tips: Families with kids should go for the Premium Mansion block, which consists of rooms that have interconnecting balconies.

The Travancore Heritage

The Travancore Heritage is a sea side resort in 8 acres of lush green coconut garden and landscaped environs located at Chowara - south of Kovalam, near Trivandrum. The resort stands on a high cliff overlooking the Arabian Sea and a long wide beach of powdery white sand.

Rooms

The 62 thatched villas are built in traditional Kerala style with an open-air courtyard, complete with a banana or papaya tree.

• Heritage Homes And Heritage Premium Cottages
The Travancore Heritage has 43 elegant air conditioned rooms in Heritage Villas with amenities including satellite TV, telephone (ISD), mini bar and coffee maker. Almost all the rooms provide a view of the sea and the beach and have spacious sit outs with built in elegant reclining benches and antique planters' chairs.

• Pool Mansion Suites
There are 2 Pool Mansion Suites with private pools set in independent air conditioned villas, with a bedroom, a drawing room and sit-out or verandah with rich period furniture. The also private plunge pool is completely walled in for privacy. These suites are ideal for honeymooners.

• Premium Mansion Rooms
There are 15 Premium Mansion Rooms perched at the edge of 120 ft cliff with the most magnificent view of the Arabian Sea.

• Beach Grove Rooms
The Beach Grove block on the beach at the foot of the 120 ft. cliff has 24 modern rooms facing the sea. A lift facility is available to move up and down different levels. Beach Grove offers the sophistication of luxury and warmth of tradition at every nook and corner.

Fine Dining

• The 'Open House' restaurant is open on the front sides with arches and overlooks the pool. It has a wooden roof ceiling on its main hall which is some 100 years old with such exquisite decorative work, sourced from the marriage hall of a feudal chief in Tamil Nadu. The restaurant offers multi-cuisine fare with the specialty of seafood and local ethnic cuisine.

The 'Ocean Grill' beach side restaurant is ideally situated between the beach grove and the sea. With thatched roofing and sea breeze caressing through this restaurant specializes in sea food.
